MagSafe Power Adapter Exchange Program

Some owners of MacBooks and MacBook Pros have had a problem with fraying insulation on the magnetic end of their MagSafe power adapters. Apple has announced a replacement program for eligible adapters. Adapters are considered ineligible for the program if they show obvious signs of abuse. Apple writes:

“You may notice a separation of the white insulation on the magnetic end of the MagSafe adapter. Under continued use, the cable may discolor and the rubber molding may become deformed

Products Affected – MacBook (13-inch Late 2006), MacBook (13-inch), MacBook Pro (15-inch Glossy), MacBook Pro (17-inch)

Resolution – Whether your product is in or out-of-warranty, you can take your adapter (you don’t need to take the computer) to an Apple-Authorized Service Provider or Apple Retail Store for evaluation, and replacement if necessary. You may be eligible for a replacement adapter free of charge provided there are no signs of abuse. Make a reservation at the Genius Bar before visiting your local Apple Retail Store. To make a reservation, go to http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar”

You can also bring in the MagSafe adapter to a Small Dog retail store, or any other authorized Apple-Authorized service provider, which you can find here:

  1. I’m respondind to the blog about replacement for the frayed power cord for the MacBook. I brought my (dead) power cord to small dog a couple of months ago and was told there was no help for it and I bought a new one from you and threw out the bad one. Would my purchase of a new one be sufficient evidence to be eligible for a replacement power cord? I can furnish you with my receipt.
Thank you for your attention to this request.
