Where are my Nike iPod Shoes?

According to Apple, the latest iTunes update, to iTunes 6.0.5, ”...allows you to sync your Nike + iPod workout data to nikeplus.com, where you can easily track your progress, set training goals, challenge others, and much more.” At this point, you really can’t see any Nike content in iTunes, except for a couple of new help topics. It’s possible Nike content will be available when the shoes actually start shipping.

I pre-ordered a pair of the red and black Nike + shoes the day they were announced. At that point, Nike said they would ship by July 13. Nikeplus.com will have new content and features on July 14. That’s in two weeks. Two long weeks, where I have to walk around with lame non-iPod integrated shoes. Two long, long weeks, where I won’t know exactly how far and how fast I’ve ran or walked in my lame non-iPod integrated shoes.

  1. I lack both Nike running shoes AND an iPod Nano. I am a loser.

  2. Well, I have a nano and will soon have the Nike shoes, and I’m still a loser – so those things won’t help!

  3. Seems aimed at a small share of the market, but for those of us in that share, woo hoo.

  4. I highly doubt your loser-ness.

Any chance that Nike and/or Apple would open this technology up to other iPods or Nike shoes? Because it does sound intriguing…

  5. The $30 transmitter that goes in the shoe, and the receiver that attaches to the nano will only be available as a Nike+ product for the foreseeable future. I’m sure Nike was aggressive in locking up an exclusive license with Apple for as long as possible.

It does seem that you won’t necessarily need the Nike+ shoes to use the $30 Nike+ transmitter/ receiver with the nano . As soon as I get my kit and shoes, I will file a report in our newsletter, Kibbles & Bytes!

  6. I don’t have more money than brains so I won’t be buying any shoes that sing. The only benefit I see is you get to tell people how much money you spent of a pair of jogging shoes.

  7. Hi Chris – You don’t need to buy expensive ($85) running shoes to use the Nike + kit. You can use the $30 Nike + kit, which includes the transmitter and the receiver for the iPod nano with any shoes.

Of course, you do need an iPod nano for this system to work, and they start at $149.00.

  8. Ed’s right. The simple shoe mod at http://podophile.com was all over the web a few weeks ago. I’m using the Nike+iPod kit with my Saucony running shoes.
