Digital Yum-yums

Greetings, hungry readers!

I’ve been feeling pretty ambitious with my cooking lately and I’ve been mixing different things like my tomato sauce with an over-easy egg and cheese. But when one is dry for inspiration on how to tempt the taste buds, where can one go?

I like to do a little searching on Apple’s downloads section of their site every now and then, and I stumbled upon YummySoup! It’s an application that comes pre-loaded with numerous recipes ranging from dessert, drinks, appetizers, and of course, soup! Some recipes are the Kamikaze, black bean stuffed peppers, ‘cheesecakelets,’ or cajun chicken stew.

One great thing about the application is that you can add and remove your own recipes or any of the preloaded ones. You input a title for your concoction, origin, prep time, ingredients and you can add your own textual ‘frill’ as well. I really like how you can publish things to the web, so you can share your recipe with others, print or email them, there are so many possibilities!

One can even keep a shopping list and keep track of liquors. YummySoup! can be found on Apple’s downloads page here. Unfortunately, it’s only a demo version of the program, but you can at least give it a try for 15 days!

Happy cooking, and thanks for reading.

Touch Me I'm Sensitive

Since it’s been cold out, I like to use my driving gloves while in the car so I don’t have to worry about my hands freezing to the steering wheel. (Yeah, say what you want, I like my driving gloves!) The downside is that while wearing my leather delights I can’t use my iPod touch. I have to take the glove off, and doing so means more risk while driving because I have to move my attention from the road to removing the glove, and then to my iPod…

Anyway, I had previously seen these gloves at EMS that have special fingertips designed to work with the iPod so you don’t have to remove your gloves. Amazing! The gloves are made by a company called Tavo products, you can view the gloves here (Flash required). The fingertips of the gloves are covered by nylon strands coated with silver alloy, which gives them the ability to interface with the sensors on the iPods.

With those in mind, I’ve thought about purchasing the gloves because not having to uncover my hands to change a song or playlist sounds pretty enticing. However, I already have a few different pairs of gloves and don’t feel like buying another pair, which would render the others useless. So, on a semi-related note, when I found out that the band-aid on my fingertip (a result of giving blood this morning) worked my iPod just fine, I was psyched!

In summation: if you want a great glove to use with your iPod, you can check out the Tavo glove, or attempt applying a band-aid to your regular gloves. (As long as you don’t mind looking like your glove has a boo-boo!) :)

Use Your Screensaver To Fuel SWEET PARTIES!

After doing some busy work in the store this past week I had noticed a coworker’s computer had a pretty cool screensaver. After commenting on it, he then showed me the plethora of other interesting screensavers on his computer.

I wanted to find some for my computer, so I proceeded to search Macupdate.com and versiontracker.com. I found one called Filigree, which is one that I have on my computer at the moment. It’s simliar to the Flurry that comes preinstalled on all machines, except that the lines are much thinner and they seem to branch off into three-dimensional space. (And it’s a much slower organic movement; so fun to watch, it makes me want to purchase one of our Toshiba HD TVs just so I can watch it…)

One cool feature about most of the screensavers that are on macupdate.com is that one can see a screenshot of the saver (of course it’s not the same as watching it but it’s still helpful). Another cool screensaver called Liquidmac hijacks the motion sensor that is built into the laptop/notebook computers, and it will look like a bunch of water droplets on screen. When you pick up the computer and tilt it, all the droplets will collect in that side of the screen.

Just thought I would share my visual experiences—happy November!

Need Business Cards? Make Your Own!

Having recently faced the dilemma of trying to market myself as a video professional, I found that I not only need to have a demo reel, but I also need to hand out my contact info. A business card (in any profession) is a great thing to have, but how do you go about finding the right one?

To figure that out, I thought I’d search for one I could download a trial of first, and I came across SOHO Business Cards from Chronos.

It’s a pretty cool application (unlike a couple of others I tried), and it gives you some tools to help you create your own card that really separates your work from everyone else’s. Familiar options like adding shapes, text, and pictures look similar to the inspector window in other applications in OS X. You can make you own text, import images right from your iPhoto library, and create cool little text boxes with different colors.

If you’re looking to create your own business card that really helps you stand out, SOHO Business cards is a great tool to play around with. I have the 30 day trial at the moment, but I’m thinking that $39.99 isn’t too expensive for a marketing solution that I have pretty good control over. If you don’t have OS 10.4 or newer, we also carry the version for $29.99.

Don’t have the that much time to spend? Another application I stumbled upon was Business Card Composer, by BeLight, which comes with hundreds of different templates. Each template is organized into a genre so you can choose one quickly.

Once you pick your template, you’re able to input your personal info (which fits into the text areas seen on the template) on the next page, and then place your order for the prints. Then you just wait for them to arrive; it’s literally three steps! Business Card Composer also retails for $39.99.

Hope that helps with your business card needs. Thanks for reading and good luck.
