Vermont’s biggest newspaper, the Burlington Free Press ran an article about last weekend’s sales tax holiday in Vermont. It included a nice profile of the event at Small Dog Electronics. Our South Burlington store was open for 24 hours; it’s fun to read about Small Dog’s CEO Don Mayer shuffling about in the very early morning with a cup of coffee. About the tax holiday, Don said:

“On the face of it, yes: the state is losing a significant source of revenue,” Mayer said. “But I would contend that retailers are gaining customers that might ordinarily go online — and might not be so ready to do so in the future.”

Vermont is having a sales tax holiday this Saturday, March 6! There will be no sales tax on items that cost $2,000 or less. This could save you some serious dough if you’re upgrading your own computer, your family’s Macs, or just want to grab some fun gadgets. The savings can add up, as sales tax in Vermont is 6%, and even 7% in a couple of towns (South Burlington, Williston).

We’re celebrating with a 24-hour sales event at our South Burlington retail store. The store will open at 12:01 AM and close at 11:59 PM. Our Waitsfield store will be open with regular business hours on Saturday, we’ll have additional telephone coverage, and our warehouse will be busy packing orders all day.

Vermont Sheds Sales Tax For A Day!
NECN interviewed Small Dog Electronics CEO Don Mayer yesterday about the Vermont Sales Tax Holiday on Saturday, March 6.

“For one day this weekend, the state of Vermont will mimic its neighbor to the east and get rid of its sales tax. The aim of the tax free holiday is to give the economy a boost and consumers a break.”
