Last week I had the idea that the older G4 Mac Cube would make a great small fish tank. I asked around and saw that we had a broken one in Burlington. I then brought it to a local glass shop, where they custom cut a piece of 1/4 inch plexiglas for the bottom. I sealed this bottom piece to the rest of the tank with aquarium safe silicon, purchased at a local pet shop.

After about 1 1/2 days, the silicone was set and I began setting up the tank. I had some left over rocks from my other 20 gallon tank and an extra fake plant. I set up the Cube with the rocks and plant but there was something missing – the fish! I ran back to the pet store and bought a small Beta for the tank. I bought a beta because I’m not adding a filter, heater or air pump to the tank. Betas adapt to smaller tanks, and are fairly easy to maintain.

A couple of weeks later, and the Beta has adapted well to his new home. The light comes from an old USB Kensington FlyLight, which is plugged into a scraped iPod USB charger.
